Found a Sterling hockey puck

Postby Ezz » 16 Apr 2011 12:47

I found a Sterling Hockey puck type padlock a couple of days ago. I was near Leeds and just spotted it at the side of the road. It looks like it has fallen off a van or something and skidded down the road as it's a bit bashed up. My dad has a similar one and says there's a common problem where people think they've slid the bolt home when they haven't and they just pop off. I looked it up on the net and the company that makes them is only about 3 miles away from where I found it. Not sure what's in it yet but I'm still finding my feet so it can go in the box for later.

But my question is, is it still in working condition, the mechanism looks to be partially open already, the photos below will probably explain it better.

As you say looks like it was never closed properly

should be an easy pick then push it back in position and close

Oddly enough a mate of mine gave me one of these yesterday, and i live up your way too. Took me all of 30 seconds to pick. A little disappointed as it looked like a tough one.

The cylinder lock is attached to the bolt which all slides it and out. Though it's not very good against picking, you wouldn't be able to use boltcutters on it, and would be tough with an angle grinder.

I'd be willing to bet some White van man forgot to lock it back on properly.
