CES mortise lock part needed.

CES mortise lock part needed.

Postby Raymond » 23 Jun 2011 22:04

Help! I am working on a cEs mortise lock with a lever handle and a deadbolt using a profile cylinder. The deadbolt is unaffected by this problem.
The gear turned by the levers to pull back the latch bolt is stripped where it connects with the gear-toothed rack of the lever return spring. The weight of the lever handles drop and hold the latch open. I have temporarily remounted them vertically until the problem can be solved. Can anyone get or does anyone have one of these gears?

I was blogging the issue about <a href="http://midlandlocks.angelfire.com/blog/index.blog/1427229/upvc-mech-replacement-parts-locksmith-blog/">replacement lock parts</a> just the other day!
You will be hard pushed to get hold of a part like that unless you have an old one you can strip down and pilfer from.
I dont have one in my spares that i know of, got any pics of the actual lockcase?

Update on my request for this part. I still cannot find it. I sent an Email to the factory rep listed in their website but have received no replies.

I am having a hard time finding a complete replacement lock as well. I dont mind changing brands if the levers and cylinder continue to fit. This lock has the levers for the latch on top and the deadbolt on the bottom. It is similar to the CES Vario but is on a residential door and not acommercial one.

Does anyone know if another brand lock will have similar dimensions? How about a company in the US who I can call for dimensions.

Thanks

I was in the factory on Wednesday in Germany but didn't see this part is it a current lock? what model and action - picture?
I'm sure they would send you the part if only you cold identgify the lock and model No
If it can be copied why write it again?

Thank you both for replies. I have not found reference to the factory in UK yet. This customer lives far out of town and I must make arrangements to take the lock out again to take a photo. She told me that she bought the door and lock at a specific hardware store but is wrong about that. Ive checked everywhere in town and found nothing. Because I assumed she knew where she got it, I took no photos of the complete lock.

take a piece of electrical tape and paste it over the worn cog. It is not a fool proof long term solution but will likely help to temporarily repair the issue

Thanks for the suggestion but this gear is worn way beyond that easy of a fix. There is a geared rack driven by about a 1/4 diameter inch spring. The rack is harder steel. The case is so loose that the weight of the lever handles drop the gear past the rack. It then gets stuck and cannot come back up. Note from the picture that the rack only contacted half of the gear to begin with. The gear and rack were both quite adequately covered with grease so it was not a lubrication issue. I have thought about replacing each gear tooth with a 1/16 roll pin but I would have to thin the whole gear to add a support washer on top. I have considered JB welding the whole gear and then Dremeling the gear teeth back. I've thought about making a new rack that would contact the full width of the gear. I have also thought about adding some kind of outside the case return spring. All of this is a lot of detail work and I'm not sure it would last. Now that I have begun the quest I would like to find a replacement lock. Temp fixes as mentioned have a tendency to not last.
