When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Snake Picks

I'm fairly new to the hobby and am looking into buying a set of Peterson Picks, however when looking at the individual picks available there are four types of snake pick. I've used a double snake in the past with good success so is there any reason to get a triple or quad snake?

Which models are you talking about?

I have the Quad Rake and Wave Rake and have never been able to open anything with them. S-rake and L-Rake are the best for raking, half diamond is also very good. The triple rake is what most of us call the W rake, it's decent, but breaks off easily.

Look into Bogota Rakes, they are very good, and made by Raimundo (a member of lockpicking101.com forums)

I was looking at the double rake, triple rake and quad rake. The double rake is an obvious choice for any kit but the triple and quad seemed like unnecessary duplicates.

I assume an "s rake" would be the double rake and an "l rake" is the long ripple.

I saw these on ITSTactical.com and have been planning on getting a titanium set at some point but the Peterson set was first on my list.

I see a lot of pick sets come with either a double half ball or double ball pick. Some light research shows these are used for wafer locks, like filing cabinets or desk drawers. I've seen some people say that a good diamond pick will do the same job better but just for the sake of practice would you recommend a double ball or a half double ball pick?

A double ball (snowman) is great for simple wafer locks. half diamond is fine too, but the snowman is great!
