The other post that is about these picks is getting a little bogged down and this might be worthy of a new topic.
I just got these picks today. From what I can gather, to use the picks you insert apick all the way back and lift up slowly. Then you pull the pick back slightly and lift again?
Perhaps someone could list off what pick number works best on what kind of lock? I've got a Best SFIC i'm working with. I here these comp gen picks work nicely on them. Any shape in particular?

I've got the same set and the same locks, and they are awesome. In my case it is pick numbers 5, 6, 8 have worked amazingly well for me on my BEST SFIC's and yea you described it right put it in and rock upwards while pulling out. I believe the reason it works so well is the multiple shearlines that can operate the non-control shear. And if you improvise a Peterson-International style sfic control tension wrench these picks are also amazing at picking the control shear. I could rant all night about how amazing these picks are and just how useful they have proven.
One other thing I realized soon after getting the picks was that I had actually gotten 16 piece computer generate set. All you have to do is turn them over and you've doubled your set.
The only complaint I really have is that the set came with a half diamond pick, since I tend to be a hook man myself I replaced it with a southord short hook. But other then that its a killer set.
Hope that helps,
Thomas

I can honestly say that is the first post I am truely proud of. Mainly because I beat someone to saying good information so I didn't just have to agree.

I must be using these tools wrong, I havn't been able to open up even simple dead bolt locks with them yet. Discouraging to say the least.

Are you moving the picks in a figure 8 motion? thats what romstar suggested in one of his posts.

I've tried that, and I keep scratching the face plate when re-inseting the pick.

What I do is push the pick all the way back, apply light tension and shake the tool up and down real fast while pulling it out. I'll give the figure eight a try.

thertel-
Greetings. How were you able to determine the pick numbers on your set? I started the last string on this topic, and asked if anyone knew the difference between the slightly different colors. Other than that, I can't see how they are differentiated. We are talking about the HPC Picks...right?
Thanks in advance,
~Bob

The question was directed at thertal, but i'll answer since i'm handy.
The instructions that come with the HPC picks have a diagram that numbers the individual picks. My guess would be that if the shades meant anything, its to identify which number it is. Or maybe it has soemthing to do with what type of lock it works best on?

I believe it was Romstar that posted a picture, or a link to the picture of the HPC set. That picture showed a silouette of the tools, along with the numbers they are called. I believe this was in the other thread about the computer picks. ( Blown away.....I think was the title. )

My set comes to me second hand, and has no difference in color. Would someone with the original instructions be willing to share them with me?

Sorry it took so long to respond to the last question. I based the numbering off of the chart on the HPC website that shows diagrams of each pick and the corresponding model number. I just started at the top and numbered them.

I'll see if I can dig up my instructions. When I find them I'll scan them to PDF. I files them away with all my other instructions.
