Those locks must be fresh out of the box or in very good condition.

Theres no way you get those times with a used lock.

Still great though especially if you consider the pressure of the audience watching.

Iv tried a public picking contest and completely flopped under pressure

I've been to the German Championships 4 times and was able to open a lot of locks in less than 10 seconds.
My best time so far was 3 seconds. Raking does the trick.
If it doesn't open by raking within a minute or I don't see any advance, I change to the hook. If you're lucky, there's only 1 or 2 pins left to set. If you're unlucky, you will have to set pin by pin which costs a lot of time.

2 years ago the padlock contest has changed to "out of the box", but I don't see much difference. Only thing I noticed that new locks seem to be rather "scratchy". (But that's only my opinion)

Audience: I know how it feels if someone's watching you while picking. Makes you nervous and you will probably fail. But this is a large hall with hundreds of people. Audience is just something in the background.

Incredible times achieved in that competition,
Not only are they picking high security,
They are doing it under pressure.
It's one thing to be sitting in your bedroom picking a lock,
now try it with 100 people watching
with cameras, video and a stop watch.

Let me know how you do.
