Only been a member since Nov. 2008....... I guess I have been negligent in following up on things. Renewed interest in lock picking - so I am here to start learning more.

Hi All,
My name is Al, and I have been a locksmith for over 30 years now, 7 years starting in Colorado, and the last 23 in South Illinois. For the biggest part of that time I have been a one man outfit, the dying breed of locksmith. I try to cover all areas of locksmithing, but I tend to gravitate to domestic auto work and safe opening/repair. I also do auto and house lockouts, but as of about 3 years ago, I no longer offer 24 hour service ( I pick and choose some after-hours jobs). (That was an unintended pun)
I will try to answer any direct questions to me and will put my two cents worth in where wanted/needed, but I'm here to learn as well. When you think you know it all you might as well lay down and die , because you are useless to everyone as well as your self.
Sincerely,
Al D. CML

Hello. Ive been picking for about a year and a half now, still struggle with it some times but I'm getting there. Luckily I lose keys a lot so I have a bunch of "useless" locks laying around in my garage that used to lock my gates or trailers that I can no longer use. Ive kept them all these years thinking that one day I'll find the key for one of them again, but that has yet to happen for any of them. So now they are my pick locks are actually being put to use again although slightly different.

Anyways I've been lurking here for the past couple months and like the way you all interact with one another so I decided to join in. As a hobbyist I probably wont find anything new that's earth shattering, but I promise to ask questions that enable the forums to grow, and try to answer when I know I can.

Introduction

Postby Zoider » 29 Aug 2011 9:28

Hello everyone,

I've been looking for a few weeks now to find a new hobby and last night while at a party a buddy of mine (a locksmith) suggested that I take up lock picking as a hobby. I think he was joking but I found it interesting, and here I am.

I'll be filling out the registration forms shortly. Look forward to learning from all the seasoned veterans out there.

Welcome! Based on your drawing, I'm guessing that's a dimple lock: a Mul-T-Lock, or some similar design?

Hi fellas.

Another new guy, getting started with another hobby.
I'm sure to have way more questions than input for a long time!!

On the other hand, I've got 23 years of career fire service in, so
we'll see if any destructive entry expertise comes in handy!!

Hi, I just joined. I live in Dallas, Texas. I think I picked my first lock in 1965, but haven't done much in the last thirty years! Just ordered a mess of new equipment, and the new toys seem to be working fine. I opened three out of four locks last evening, two of them on my own front door. Admittedly, I used a pick gun, which is probably verboten at this site-which seems to promote actual SKILL.
