Starting a club

Ok, this is the plan. I go to school at Buffalo State College. I plan to start a lock picking club. If successful I get to use up to $600 of college funds on fun lock picking stuff and goodies. This is a long shot at best but i will kick myself if I dont try. This is the part were I need help:

I need to write a "well-defined purpose" and outline the clubs activities. I need help writing this so it doesent sound like im a criminal or training an undergroud terrorist organization like in fight club. So if you guys have any advice if would be greatly appreciated.

Whatever you do dont bill the club as a Lockpicking Club. Take the approach of a Security Systems Development. That way you can, if you work it right, get access to metal shops (for making tools) and possibly CAD labs for designing tools. This is an approach that is not as likely to cause the college to freak out. You still get to pick locks because what better way is there to develop security systems then to learn their weakness's. And For heavens sake do not pick the schools locks, nothing can come of it but trouble. You might want to take a look at the SSDev website for their code of conduct as it is a very good one.

-explore the mechanical imperfections of security systems and locking mechanisms

-understanding the theory and use of techniques such as “shimming” and “binding effect” and how these techniques can be minimized in effectiveness to create more secure systems

This club is perfect for people who love puzzles; it is intellectually stimulating and very social.

apparently i need a faculty member to sign off on the club.....this is gonna take some persuation

Well it depends on what your major is. If your a mechanical engineer pitch it to one of the profs. Most likely they will be very receptive.

im a Forensic Chemisrty major, so it has nothing to do with it. I think im gonna pitch it to my physics professor b/c the guy talks about physics stuff in the MIT guide, so maybe he will sign off on it.

If that fails pitch it at a forensic club that focus's on the forensics of lock analysis after an entry. It's a valid field and relies upon metallurgical analysis.

Hehe in forensic locksmithing they call it "surreptitious entry". Heh, guess in that field of work they wanna sound more proffessional
