I would like to use this for storage. I understand the risks etc. etc. The door has yet to be opened and goes unchecked during the room checks. Thanks.
And are dx pick guns really that bad? I have gotten nothing but quality products from dx in the past. Thanks..
Unfortunately, lp101 is not what you think it may be. We are not here to train criminals or to help people who want to save a buck or two. We pick locks as a hobby and because it is a fun challenge, we do not do it because it is useful in the real world to get free things or access to places where we are not allowed to go. The media already make anyone who says they know how to pick a lock out to be a criminal, and we try hard to minimize that image, because it simply isn't true for 99.9% of us who are on this forum. To that end, we follow some rules and we keep to a strict set of ethics where we dont use our skills to show off to friends by picking their dorms, we dont show off to co workers by picking their desk or office door to fill their office with packing peanuts, and we dont run around the apartment building or our neighborhood picking door locks because its fun and exciting and 'what hard could it possibly be'. Most of us keep a small collection of locks to pick for fun, and when we get bored with them we trade or sell or buy new ones.
If anyone on your floor ever finds out (and people do talk) that you store stuff in a room that you dont have a key to, and campus police or your RA or your Dean finds out you have a pick gun.. man.. after that, if you're still not suspended or expelled, anytime anyone's cell phone, ipod, ipad or $10 dollar bill goes missing from their suite or room, your name will be at the top of the list for suspects. It really isn't worth ruining your image and credibility, because this is the kind of stuff that will follow you to your first job interview after college and its never an easy conversation.
Best bet is to make buddies with the RA, hand him or her $50 and a case of beer and ask if you can store some stuff in there and nag them occasionally to open it for you to get stuff out or put stuff in. <-- This is the best advice you will get for this question.
Will that DX gun work on that door? More than likely, but it may also break the lock by dropping out master wafers. Then even the real key wont be able to open it and they'll have to drill it or [insert something expensive that will probably involve your deposit]
Your call man, we're just trying to keep it real (and legal),
