Never heard of a tie bolt type of lock, so I looked it up:
"This lock is a normal handle lock with a Tie bolt drive, That simply means it uses a square shaft to operate the lock, The benefit of this lock is that is only requires 4 screws to install the lock to the door, once the holes have been drilled"
Cylindrical looks have a larger round central body, and need a full size 2 1/8" hole in the door, and often only need 4 screws as well, whereas the type that use just a square shaft to turn the latch can fit in a smaller hole.

Been playing with locks since '68.
