I've been lurking for a few now and now I've atleast got some sort of grip on how picking works I figured I'd say hey! I'm a lowly security guard but I get to work at some really cool and cutting edge places. I'm just killing time at this job waiting for my celarence to go through so I can get on with one of the Co.s I work with and actualy make some bank. All day long I sit on my but geting paid for well sitting around. So in place of chating on the phone like most of my co-workers do all day long I aim to improve myself in any ways I can think of. A few months back I decided to start tinkering with locks. Got a simple 5 pice set from southern ord and some cheep locks from lowes. I'm able to bypass these cheep ones and the crap my appartment door has. I'm working on pad locks right now and have had no success. I'm only able to get online when I come to school so researching here while I practice just dosent happen. I've never used any sort of fourms so I'm trying to figure out how it all works give me some pointers when I screw up because I know I will. I look foward to learning alot here and helping out any time I can.

Hi,
I have just found this thread so I will post my introduction here. I live in the midlands area of the UK and I have always been interested in locks. I have been reading about lock picking for a while so I have a bit of theoretical knowledge and recently I got a small set of picks (4 picks and 1 torque wrench) which I have had moderate success with (I.E. I have opened every Wafer lock I have come across with them, but not really had chance to get hold of some pin tumblers to try it on).

New to the site, sorta... been lurking.
Nice place, lots of data.
I have been picking locks since I was 10, glad I didnt end up in jail.
I have kept up with it due to doing ocassional work in the security field.
Mostly physical security but I have done quite a few vulnurabilty checks so I figure a guy with a lil habit like me can get into a lock before 5 min, then its time to get new locks.
I've also spotted locks that someone has picked (lots of odd scratches on the pins) so this hobby can be a money maker for a quick 8hour evaluation if you want to make it so.
I am here because its always good to share info and get new info, Thanks.

Hi, I'm new here, quit obviously. I'm getting started seriously learning lockpicking now, instead of fooling with it every once in a while. (My friend's grandfather was a locksmith, unfortunately, he passed away. We still have some of the tools to use though.)
I ordered myself a set of 11 picks and 2 tension wrenches recently, they should've been in today. I love US mail. I'm hoping for tomorow before I start complaining.
I've browsed around before registering, read the MIT guide, etc. Just thought I'd drop in and say hi to everyone.

Hi guys and gals,
Ive been reading these forums for about a fortnight now. I first got into lockpicking one day as my friend had a the Locksmith CD. I watched it and made my very first lock picks out of hair pins. I looked everywhere in my house and couldn't find a padlock. I was to scared to try picking a door handle just incase my pick got stuck . So at school, some guy for some reason had a lock on his bag. I asked him if i could borrow it for a day and he said yes!! So i got home and thats when i found this forum. I read a lot of threads and gained some valuable information (thanks guys) and attempted my first lock. It was some no-brand lock. I started slowly, but soon after my fingers started to hurt as the hair pin was small and sharp. I got quite impatient as my hand was red and had scratches where the pick had got me. I decided ill watch some TV and play around with the lock and as i got the TV on, got a channel and just watched i heard a click. I was silent for about a minute till i looked down. And it was unlocked I was sooo happy. I went around telling everyone that was near me (just my bro and my mum ). After that, i seemed to do it in just under 5 seconds, and sometimes even convincingly 3 seconds. From what i felt, this padlock had a good 4-5 or even 6 pins. However i took my picks to school , and lost them . Now I havent been able to pick any other locks as hair pins have their limitations, they arent very long and sometimes (most of the times) they dont even fit into what im trying to pick .
Being in the N.T. (Australia) I know its illegal to buy lockpicks and even have them under my possession, but I really enjoy the feeling of a lock being unlocked for the first time. I decided ill try my luck out in buying some tools off the net, however its a bit pricey. I mean, in lockpickshop.com a 14-set costs $25US. That may be cheap for some but adding the $12.85 P&H it totals to almost $40US. Now thats more then $50AUD just for a 14-set. Im not sure if thats good, but its a bit to pricey for me. I know its been asked, and i have searched, but i was wondering if there are any shops that are located IN australia. The $25US i am willing to pay, but i just dont feel right having 60% of the cost just on postage. Anyone in the N.T (HIGHLY DOUBT IT) that comes on this forum?
Sorry for having such a long intro Hope to get along with you guys, great community from what i have seen so far.

Welcome everyone.
Jerbz: have a look (search ) around this site for pick templates etc.
Keywords...templates, what I have, my picks, my pickset...you'll then have an idea of what to make, and what material to use. Also try a search for Pryo's video...I believe it's here:
ftp://lockpicking:101@nickz.homeftp.net in the /templates folder.
Enjoy.
If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!
