Two of the same lock

Postby madazn » 3 Oct 2011 1:31

Hi guys, I know this may be a dumb question but...
Code: Select all
Basically I have two masterlock no1
I can open one of em really easily...and the other I can't open no matter how hard i try

I know there's probably a difference in binding order even though they are the same, and it seems like I've tried every order, but I was wondering in anyone had some tips.

PS I might not even be SPPing correctly but the way I open the lock that I can open is by sticking in the half hook at an angle, picking the 3rd pin (or what feels like it anyways) I feel the small click, then a small push to the 4th pin opens the lock. Since the pick is at an angle the first two pins are kind of held down.

Thanks in advance

*There's no edit button?
Actually now that I've done it about 100 more times..it feels like I only need to pick the 3rd and 4th pin to open this lock..

No, there isn't. Too many people posting things that are not nice to others, then going back to change it like nothing ever happened and anyone who replied to their original post looks like a crazy person.

If people were more grown up, there would be an Edit button.

Welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay.

Several online forums allow editing for only 10 minutes after a post. That solves the problem of removing a post after starting a fire and still lets us fix grammar or accidentally posting half way through our message.

update: I can open the second lock occasionally now, but I' not completely sure if it's 4,3,2 or 4,2,3...is it possible for two different binding orders?
Also I'm assuming for now that because the no1 locks are so cheap that they are giving way without having all their pins picked.
or
I'm slightly pushing on the front pins w/o even noticing it or realizing it much.

Actually the binding order appears to only be 4,3

Also if anybody has some better tips besides MIT's guide, I'd be happy to hear them. (Or maybe this is the kind of thing you just have to get the feel for) But if someone could answer my question about only 2 pins opening the lock it'd be awesome to clear up my confusion.

Thanks.

i've experienced this in cheap locks. what's happening is you're pushing down with the shank of the pick on pins 1 and 2, and you're only having to work at 3-4. try tensioning at the top of the keyway, if you're not doing that already, and when you become proficient at both of the no. 1's, move on to a no.3. IMO, they're a little harder to pick and definitely more educational
