PLEASE RESPOND ASAP!!!

I know that title is a little demanding, but i want to get back to lockpicking ASAP . I just picked my front door's kwikset deadbolt (my first successful deadbolt pick) but after the lock unlocked the plug stopped turning upside down. I tried to turn it with a little more tension but it wouldn't budge. I looked in the plug to see if the pins were still up and they were but it wouldn't turn so i took the lock out of the door and turned the plug with my fingers. HOW CAN I KEEP THE PLUG FROM GETTING STUCK?

The plug stops turning upside down, and i can't get the key in because somethings in the way. heres a simple picture.

if like a uk cylinder it may be nothing more than the spring loaded pins coming into keyway and preventing you turning, if so put the back of a pick in the keyway, push the spring loaded pins down and continue turning

The top pins have slightly entered the bottom of the keyway of the plug. Kwikset keyways are prone to this, especially if they have been used for more than a year. The metal wears quite quickly. Simply use a tension wrench to push up while turning with another tension tool. Make sure you use the long end of the tension tool, as you must make sure you reach the back of the keyway.

The "something" that was in the way when you attempted to insert your key were in fact, the bottom pins. For more on this particular situation, read the MIT Guide.


Pinky: Kwikset doesn't make a Euro cylinder AFAIK. As it is they barely make hardware that could be called "lock".

I tried that chuck but it didn't work. I am a noob so i probably did it wrong and the lock is 5 years old but i'll just stick with manually fixing it for now.

if putting the tension tool in there doesn't work - try something longer like the reverse side of a pick.

*Moral of this story kiddies.....don't fiddle with something that you rely on.....get yourself a practice lock.*

Follow Chucklz's advice and you won't go wrong. Just make sure you depress all the pins, then rotate the plug whilst keeping the pins depressed.
