Weird lock

Postby t_spohn2000 » 24 Oct 2011 12:48

Ok I have a weird lock that does not take a key I suppose. It has four tabs underneath a shaft that is connected to a coupling mechanism. It will not let me post the pictures of it on here for some reason. The tabs are a thin metal and they go under a shaft that kinda looks like this... Say this is the shaft::: IIIIID And the little tabs slide under the "D" North East South West direction. A coupler is connecting this as well. The tabs are in an "L" shape

After 8 years, the server is full of attached photos, please use something like http://flickr.com or http://photobucket.com or http://tinypic.com/

Please upload your photo and then paste a URL link, we'll be happy to take a look, but what is your actual question?

So that looks like either a water meter or gas meter lock. It doesn't take as much as a special key, but a special wrench. You'd have to call your landlord or if you own the place, you'd have to call your utility company and ask them to come open it.

That's really all we can tell you about that sort of 'lock'

Yes, I own the place but its a renovation. The gas meter is the old one, and I need the fittings from it. I have called the gas company, and they said that basically it was my problem since the meter was moved. Are they allowed to leave the old meters hooked up like that? Anyways, thanks for your advice and hopefully I can get this thing out of here. Oh yeah, I also wanted to see the mechanics of the condenser, since its not everyday you get to mess with a gas meter...

Stop a gas guy in his truck/van on the street, offer a couple $20's cash and ask for their help if their dispatch isn't willing to help you.

Good luck and have a good one,

Just ripping it out would be cheaper I suppose. I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to things like that. Thanks for the input. You guys seem to have a good group of people here to help out. I was just curious about your site and locks as well. I learned a great deal just by surfing on various board indexes. Anyhow, thanks again...
