Looking to start a company in AZ

Postby goodlifeda » 27 Oct 2011 15:11

I am a young college student that has in the last couple years just dabbled in to the world of locks and the world of locksmithing and I just had some questions and guidance in what I should do next. Now I know that I need more training for sure that is the first thing I need is a good education and foundation for this career. Now I know in AZ just any fool with a lockpick can call himself a "professional" and I want to become ALOA certified but the schools for locksmithing seem really strange locally even the ALOA recommended school by me is like a 3 thousand dollar 1 month crash course it looks like and they do hook you up with some tools but the whole process seems rather strange. I called a couple of local locksmiths and they were very short with me and didn't want to pay me much attention and if i even brought up the idea of becoming an apprentice or helping around the shop I was almost immediately shot down and they told me to go to school... so here i sit in the bubble and this is something I could really see myself doing and enjoying I just need to get in the right direction.. I could study on my own but I need a good start or resource to get me off on the right foot so i figured I would come up here and ask. Any help or guidance would be really appreciated

Im in casa grande az and in the same boat you are about starting my own business and wanting to get certified but ive been going through alot of posts and most of them saying you don't necessary have to be certified and that all you need is to be licensed so what others suggestions are to buy locksmiths dvds and spend money on tools and equipment so i hope that helps. What part of az you from?
