I am a fairly new to locksmithing and will be moving to New Zealand soon. I was wondering what types of locks I will encounter as far as business and residential is concerned. any info is greatly appreciated!

Sorry for the late reply – I didn't see this post till now.

I'm only a noob to picking, so I have never paid much attention to lock types before, but from my experience, as far as residential locks go, you'll see brand name cylinders like Legge, Yale, and Lockwood, as well as lots of no-name cheapo locks.

There are plenty of cheap Asian padlocks imported here, as well as European cylinders. I've also seen a lot of Master padlocks at the hardware store. Lever locks are not so common but they are around, particularly in older homes.

I don't know much about business locks sorry, except that most shops on the main street use pin tumblers, while offices seem to use magnetic card readers.
