Chubb cruiser / era big 6 picks

Postby pinky » 26 Sep 2004 17:02

i can highly reccomend the rimmer brothers 2 in 1 picks for the chubb cruiser, chubb battleship, era insurance and era big 6 padlocks.

ive come across quite a few of these recently, and have got them down to 5 minute openings at the door, the picks have great feeling and are simple to use.

these are now available from all uk wholesalers and a real asset to my tool kit.

oh yes, the cruiser has similar levers to the 114 lever, 5 levers and 6 levers most with anti pick notches.
but are easier to pick than the bs mortice locks

Easy to pick - but a bugger to lock again with the picks !. Lucky this isn't the norm !.

chubb cruiser

heres the inside of the beauty!
Image
when picked and decoded its usually only the second lever in that needs to be picked to re lock the padlock.
When decoding get all the six lever heights and cut a key with one lever width to each height rotate and the first one to successfully pass through 360 degrees is the correct cut / lever height.
Rim bros tool works all! well cool :D

the era big six and insurance locks are generally under a minute with the rimmer brothers picks, the cruiser in under 5 minutes.

I've just got the four RB 2-in-1 picks for the ERA Insurance, ERA Big6, Chubb Cruiser and Chubb Battleship and they all, apart from the Battleship, work very well... I say apart from the Battleship as the pick gauge is too big for my padlock keyway so haven't played with that as yet.

The ERA Insurance and Big6 are quick openings and you've got to pick them shut the same way but it's just as easy as opening.

The Chubb Cruiser is more difficult as it has anti picks but can still be opened in a few minutes. The thing that compensates for the anti picks in the Chubb's is that for the Cruiser you only have to set the 3rd lever to close it and for the Battleship you only have to set the 2nd lever in so, for warrant work and the like, they are very easy to lock again.

Era big 6

Postby keyman » 10 Feb 2005 13:28

Just read all posts on RB picks ,but wondered why pay £50+ on a pick for an Era Big 6 when a modified key blank and a piece of spring steeel will do £1.00 at the most and still open the lock in less than 5 mins with practice just my opinion.

dont think lever wires would work as the lock has a spike that the key goes into, would get in the way of the wires

How about bending the wire in such a way that it wraps around by say 1/4 of the cirumference of the pin, then mayb it could engage the talon and turn AROUND the pin.. :?

big 6

Postby tri-city » 13 Apr 2005 13:27

i found the big 6 a very easy open ,, the first time i tried the cruiser i was at my mums , she thought it ould take me ages ,,, it took me all of 30 secs , but since then ive only opened it 3 or 4 times,, but i must admit i havent tried much lately,, ive been practicing b.s. curtains... same with the battle ship , i had to file the bottom notch bolt throwera bit and it's still a bit tight ... it's a much harder lock to open ... i think it has 6 levers all with anti picks so you need a good memory and good feel.....all in all the big 6 opens in minutes
