Where to go after schlage?

Postby irate-turtles » 9 Jan 2012 2:49

Howdy all,

I've finally gotten to the point where I can reliably (although not quickly) pick my five pin schlage cylinder with four spool pins and one normal pin. However, the only two locks I've picked are two schlage cylinders (one cylinder picks much more easily than the other) and two defiant cylinders, with a maximum of three security pins.

I'm thinking I should expand my breadth of experience, but I'm not sure what names of locks to look for (or avoid) while out shopping around for more locks, or where to go after schlage for a challenge.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

I would try a schlage IC core. Perhaps only 2-3 security pins to start. Give you some new perspective. :)

All of the schlage ic cores I can find come without pins, would I need to purchase pins separately, or could I just use my existing schlage pins?

I would recommend an American padlocks not the 5200 but instead the 1105 or 30 would be good. They have serrated and spoorated pins which sound harder than they are, but are great to get a feel for different security pins in locks. They are 5pin almost always I think and you can take apart and re-pin the 1105 series (not the 30 series non-destructively)
