Dremel or Proxxon?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Dremel or Proxxon?

I was interested in which one, the dremel: http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pages/ToolDetail.aspx?pid=4000 or the proxxon: http://www.proxxontools.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=10 is better at cutting high carbon steel to make picks from.

I personally do not have a Proxxon, but have heard great things about them. Supposedly they have a bit less vibration, are quite a bit quieter, and they do not "bog down" under load as the dremel does. They are also appear to be of better construction IMHO (some metal vs all plastic)

I have the Dremel 4000 and I'm quite satisfied with it. I have used for many different applications, including making picks, and it has never bogged down or come close to even breaking pace. Since I have it, I think a potential bias may be implied...but just like anyone else, it would drive me crazy to have a tool that didn't perform and I would gladly replace it if it was not great. Additionally, something that may be less of an option with other rotary tools, are the attachments. The extension/small hand grip attachment is great and prevents you from having to support the weight of the main tool while you are working. On this model, I don't find the vibration to much of an issue at all. For what a personal opinion is worth, I have no complaints about the Dremel 4000. The next model number up is a cordless version and I have heard very bad things about that one.

thanks for the input, i looked at a number of reviews online and everything just seems to come down to personal preference since they both sound to be great tools!

Sincerely I think both are close. Sure, I am a fan of Dremel branded stuff because I got one which works flawlessly even if I got it used already, but I've heard good things about the Proxxon which at first bent my nose because I didn't know this brand at the time :)

PROXXON!!!
Went there, never looked back.
Main reason is that the neck easier adapts to a stand(you can buy or make your own)
Also, available with collets, which makes for better fastening.
I really recommend this one Image , the Proxxon IB/E.
My setup, with homemade attachment for fixing in the vise. Also appreciate the pedal-switch.
Whatever you choose, good luck with your projects!
