When I went to the local hardware store to pick up a new lock, they had an american padlock hanging there without a package and I decided to pick it up. It say's series 50 on the back and "SFF", could someone fill me in on what model I actually have and what the letters mean? Also, I haven't had much luck so far. I know you have to use very light tension on these because of the serrated pins, but I can quite get it. I can feel pins moving from one serration to another, but with such light tension...I don't think I can pick up the difference in movement when a pin actually "set's" I know, I know......these lock are probably something you get a feel for after practice...but if anyone has any technique advice specific to American locks....ANY guidance would be appreciated to point me in the right direction.
Also, I know there are many threads on American locks already, but without know exactly what model this is...it's hard to do a specific search. I know exactly what's in these can vary a good bit from one model to another. Serrated pins seem pretty standard though. I also tried to take it apart, but the screw inside the shackle hole looks like someone tried to drill it out and I can't remove it. No wonder it was without a package and "priced to move"
