Lockout still runing

Postby windseaker » 27 Jan 2012 5:14

I have a small riding buffer machine. It takes a very small double sided key. Anyway I had the machine on and bumped the keys and the key came out with it still in the "on" position. now I can get key back in to turn it off. Any ideas are welcome.

Thank you

Could you post a close up of said key, keyway and also the make and model of said machine? I think it'd help immensely :)

Logic would put it along the lines "as it came out, it'd fit in again", though before forcing anything you should check
that the key didn't bend, jiggling it for a while may be enough to fit in again, though let's wait for some more details
and somebody else's experience 8)

@windsneaker:

A picture of the key or lock in question would be helpful...

Also the manufacturer and model of the machine...

Sometimes the "key" for those machines is nothing more than a tamper-proof removable switch handle that is shaped like a key...

it came out so it must be capable of going back in, do not force it but use a little light oil on the key and jiggle it.

Many people here will get crazy about me saying to put light machine oil {3 in 1 oil} in a lock because they see maintainence problems three years from now when it turns to gunk, but it wont, it will wear out of the mechanism every time the key enters and comes out and a double sided key indicates wafer tumbler mechanism which has much looser tolerances than a pin tumbler lock. there are no lube problems in wafer locks, except probably lack of lube
