Looking for picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Looking for picks

Postby fredd3039 » 6 Feb 2012 19:21

Hello,
A while ago I saw a set of picks on here that were just beautiful. They had red heat shrink handles with white heat shrink at the tops and bottoms. The picks were long and slender and most of them were rakes but unique designs. Can anyone on here help me find the images of these picks. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Are you referring to Legion303's picks? viewtopic.php?f=4&t=38341
Or were them a commercial design?

Thank you :)

I think they were by locknewbie21 but all of his pictures are gone now. Are they anywhere else on the board? His thread is wiped out.

Hey, Schuyler Towne shows a couple LN21 picks in his video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHrmh1G9WfU&t=2m05s

Different color scheme, same picks as what you're looking for.

His photobucket account is private or deleted but you can still link to direct images, like so: http://media.photobucket.com/image/lock ... uff006.jpg

By the way, whatever happened to Locknewbie21? He was one of the most intelligent and giving members of the community with 3.6k posts but he only posted once in 2011 and hasn't posted this year. Miss that guy and his contributions.

I would suggest not talking about or linking anything about Mr.Towne... there are alot of not so happy/pissed off members in the lockpicking community about what he did with his 'kickstarter money'.

Sorry to be off topic, but I'm not impressed with what he did and don't want that guy getting anymore publicity unless you're spreading the word about his wasting $90K.

I was answering the asker's question.

To make a long story short...Schuyler was (as of about a year ago) an active member on LP101. The rest of that video I linked to is his venture into making commercial lock picks. His funding was completed in September of 2010, it is now February of 2012. It has been a year and a half and people *still* don't have a product in their hands. He has 87k of funding and hasn't shipped a single order. You can read about his stated reasons here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sch ... sts/152179 and his financial breakdown here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sch ... sts/169192

A critical breakdown of his spending was posted to reddit here. Note cells B23 and B24. That's why a lot of people are mad.

PS: As of 3 hours ago he posted an update with the (preliminary) CAD drawings which were some people paid $5 for. Maybe in the final version he'll post the PNG and ESP formats along with "material suggestions and finishing ideas too" which were included in the description earlier.

I'm not for or against Schuyler, I'm simply stating the situation as I understand it. If we want to go on a tangent, someone should really make a separate thread :)

Oh no tangent. I was simply interested because of the 90k line. Anyway it was locknewbie21. I found images on an old cd of mine. What happened to him? Is he not participating anymore?

Even though this is a buried thread, I want to clear up that Skyler Towne isn't locknewbie21 lol

I used to make home-brews on this forum and Skyler (shoes as we used to call him) had purchased picks from me, and I also helped contribute a little back when he was published a small lock picking magazine.

I realize this thread is from 2012, but I was to clear all confusion Skyler Towne is NOT Locknewbie21.... lol

Are you the jeweler? I spoke to someone on here a while ago that was a jeweler who made picks. I was interested in some of the equipment he used. I manufacture custom firearms and this person had some great tooling for his flex tool and I have some questions. Do you have an image of those picks? They were inspirational. I used to look at them to get curvature ideas for guns that I make. Would it be possible for us to chat via email or on here? I have a few questions I would like to ask you. One of which is have you ever thought of making a book about your picks and making and using them. I own a publishing company and I would be happy to publish a book about your work. We can discuss it further if you like.

Raimundo would, have images, be interested in doing a book? Do you have images of those long sleek picks you made with the red handles?

Dude you're giving me a ton of work on a Sunday morning cleaning up all your posts. Multiple accounts are not allowed on the forum, instead of posting this explanation in each of your dozen posts this morning, maybe PM me and ask for access to your old account and I can reset your login so you can make all these posts with your real account.

Locking this for now. New account Banned until you email me to sort this out.
