RESET M175 COMBO but its not the right combo

Postby anApple » 10 Feb 2012 0:56

Ok I hope and pray I am going about this the right way. I am dizzy from searching these post for answers. Ok I have the new m175 master combo lock. It seems they have addressed the picking issues such as tightening the spaces betweeen the combo reels and anti pick tool also. My problem is while trying to reset combo I somehow got the lock jammed and thru manipulation got it un jammed but now it will not lock and I have no clue what the combo is. The lock is open what can I do ? again it will not lock. It will not allow me to resetthe combo . It is just stuck in nomans land. thank you for your help.

If your padlock is open I guess the right combo is already dialed. What's wrong with resetting it? Are you following the instructions? When the problem occurs? Please explain and maybe add a couple of pictures showing what's wrong.

Cheers :)

Thank You for you response. I will attempt to clarify. Bought lock, got home started the process of changing the combo from the factory combo of 5296 to my own of say 1975. Doing all this very light heartily while watching the evening news. About this time I am called to dinner. Upon returning from dinner I pick up the unlocked lock among other things and sent them aside so that I could assist the kids with their homework. Fast foreword to the next evening and I pick up[ the lock and proceed to go install it where it is needed and to my dismay the bolt if frozen in the open position , the dials are also frozen, everything is just stuck. I tinker with it for a moment and get it unjammed to where the dials move thru all digits. The bolt will move , but will not lock nor allow to be pushed down into position one or two. I hope this helps a bit. Mind you that this is a new style m175 "high security" lock with the pick issue somewhat addressed. As well as attempts to tighten the spaces around the dials also. the reset of the combo is not the same as my older m175. Any help would be appreciated and Thank You in advance.

Here is a How to Operate M175 padlock video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHFmDr-g2Vo

Models #175, 176, 177 and 178:

* Open lock with the factory set or previously set combination. The lock must be set to the current combination, or you cannot reset it. Note: the shackle must be in the open position to reset the combination.
* Insert reset tool (enclosed in package) in hole on side of lock.
* Push reset tool in and turn 90 degrees (in either direction). Reset tool automatically stays in this position.
* Set wheels to desired combination.
* Turn and remove reset tool. Lock is now set to new combination.
* Record your new combination in a safe place.

If you're having a hard time trying to move the shackle, you may need to rotate the shackle a little in order to be able to lift it.

Hope this helps you and everybody else that may have a similar issue :)

thank you for you input. but the method you refer to is that of the old m175. with those there was a key or tool supplied to rest combo. these new ones require no tool . i followed the directions and thought the combo was changed to my desired number. but once i returned that was not the case and the new combo is a unknow number.' without that number you are unable to use the lock or reset the combo again. i guess what i hoping for was a way to somehow pick the open lock andretrieve this unknown number. it seems this may be impossible and if impossible the lock is deemed useless. well thank you for your imput. anotherone bits the dust.... :-(

I'm not familiar with that lock in particular but does standard sesame lock decoding work on it? Or is that what you're referring to when you say the pick issue is addressed?

Those locks only have four wheels, and 10,000 combinations; even if you just dial through all of the possible combos it could be done easily in a couple of hours while watching a movie. It could be done even faster if you pick your starting number a little below what you were trying to set the number to... and, if you hit "9999" without finding it, then wrap back around to "0000" and go up again.

On the old 175s you had to change the combo from the opening number for it to lock.
Try closing the lock and spin the numbers ( at least 1wheel )

Deleted info. Do not post information regarding bypasses or decoding here, it's too easy for bad guys to google for it as it is.

I might be a few years late but maybe help someone else down the line...

I had the same problem today... Nowhere on google is a fix... So I decided to bash it closed with a "hammer/wrench" to see if it fixed it or broke it more. Sofar it works better than before. :D

Percussive maintenance. Who says it doesn't work.

I want to know more about this mysterious "hammer/wrench". Is that like the little cousin to the knifewrench?

I was going to suggest something but then realised it would break the rules which prohibit users from posting bypass methods outside of the Special Access section of the forum.

I can however suggest a different method which doesn't require any tools.
Try dialling in the combo that you remember setting but move each code wheel forwards and backwards one number to see if maybe you accidently bumped a wheel without realising and set the wrong code.

Or half a number in case the number was not entirely centered.

Years ago I had sold a similar lock made by Sesamee-- the client had set the combo but said the lock wouldn't open & they wanted to avail themselves of the lifetime warranty. I told them if they got the padlock opened I would warranty it. They pulled it open using two bulldozers & I sent it in for warranty-- Went right through
