Re: Schlage Primus Sidebar Codes (?)

So I have an assortment of Primus blanks, both standard and control. In addition to the standard Primus keyblank part number, 35-157 (standard) or 35-158 (control), each has a four-digit code:

1001
1003
1004
1006

It seems obvious that 1001 is the standard-issue Level 1 sidebar. (I could, however, be entirely mistaken.)

Would it follow that 1003 would correspond to Level 3, 1004 to Level 4, and so on? Or are each of these codes simply variations on Level 1? Or would that make them Level 1+? Or is there another explanation entirely?

I imagine Evan will want to demonstrate his expansive knowledge of the intricacies of Primus sidebar coding, and ... wow, I'm actually looking forward to it. Might anyone else care to weigh in? Would it help if I posted photos of the side bit-milling associated with each code?

Nope that's not it at all. Im not at home so I don't have the technical manual. But the side bitting would be under the "primus sequence" part on the label. And it would also say the actual level: "level 9Z" for example.

After looking at the tech manual online. The only thing that is four digits is the sequence. Which is basically just a blind code. So that doesn't really tell you anything.

So unless you have the box which has plenty of info on it, I'd say those numbers are meaningless.

Can you post a picture of the keys ? With the numbers in question shown ?

All the primus keys I have have no number what so ever on them.

Those are the standard STOCK keyways and side bitting codes that a Primus Level 1 dealer can create/sell keys for nationwide... Until a dealer buys into Level 1+/Level 2 (dealer exclusive keyway) or an end user contracts for their own side bitting from Schlage, they are using one of those standard side bitting sequences listed above...

As MacGnG1 noted, they are just a shortcut code to make stocking/inventory control of those products easier on the distributors and retailers in the supply chain...

I didn't buy these blanks in multiples of 50, so I never had boxes. Some of them are in plastic bags with the Schlage part number and one of the aforementioned 4-digit codes. They keysection isn't noted, but visually deciphering Schlage keysections is one thing I do quite well.

My posting was in regard to blanks in bags labelled as follows:

35-158 1001 (CP)
35-157 1001 (CP)
35-158 1004 (CEP)
35-157 1004 (CEP)
35-157 1006 (EP)
35-157 1003 (FGP)

In retrospect, it should've been immediately obvious to me that the blanks were extraordinarily unlikely to be anything other than Level 1.

I was interested in deciphering the 4-digit codes in anticipation of selling some off ... when I sell items on eBay et al, I like to provide as much info as possible and to avoid any ambiguity/nonspecificity.

This thread is very interesting. I have a few Primus cylinders and keys laying around from ebay. The primus keys do not have any factory stamped serial numbers on them... does that mean the key is a standard level 1 key? The keys I mention are in the CP keyway and i think are the non XP keys if that is any help. I maybe someday I can put these cylinders in service if I can find the blank? (HOPEFULLY IT IS A LEVEL 1) I'm not familiar with these systems at all.

If the keys do not have a factory stamp on the bow near the blade, then they are Level 1.
