Well if they didn't sit properly I guess it's not fault of the design, it may just be different thickness in stock metal. You may also need more than one given the different shapes and sizes of locks.
As for the flashlight, you'd use one mounted on a tripod or on a bendable arm on a suction cup if there really is a need for it.
I always used wrenches more as picks than as leverage, so anything 0.6mm thick and upwards if fine for my picking needs
