Just to share an interesting story on how knowing about different locks came in handy in my guitar class at school the teacher forgot the combination to the lock that held all the guitars in the closet. Luckily for me, my friend had a soda can. I chugged it and used my hands to rip it (no scisors) into a suitable shape to shim the lock. Yes, i had permission from the teacher who was quite impressed lol

Nice job. Was it a Master Lock combo? I thought shimming was ten times more difficult on those ones now. If it was, then kudos for doing it so easily.

yeah, it was a master combo lock. It took several tries but i got it in the end. I folded the aluminum over to make it into 2 layers to make it stronger and then smashed it flat so it could fit in. Then i just put it straight down on the inside of the left shackle instead of the outside and turning it. Took about 15 min and most of the class thought i was a fake until it popped open!
