7 pin vs 8 pin tubular?

7 pin vs 8 pin tubular?

Postby magicfingerss » 17 Mar 2012 9:15

I have several different people telling me that a 8 pin tubular lock pick will open both 7 pin and 8 pin locks. Is that true? When i think about it, why would a company throw on a new lock with 1 extra pin if the same tool can still open it? Wouldn't the spacing between the pins be different on both the 7 and 8 pin, requiring you to buy both tools to open both locks? Thank you for your help.

The spacing of the pins is the same, but the location of the center notch is different.
