Need this Best keyway ID's, having trouble picking it

Postby MJK_Tool » 15 May 2012 12:22

I looked on the PDF of Best keyways and can't find this one:

I'm having trouble picking it. Wanted to get it into control and put a core in that I have keys for. The first pin is sitting high up in the plug. Perhaps the pins fell out?

Why do you think knowing the ID could help picking it?

Good luck anyway :)

So I can get blanks for it once I get it out of the lock. So I could get a bump key made for it. So I know more about a core I own.

You can't find it because its not a BEST keyway. It's a PEAKS keyway, a system owned by KABA and licensed/sold to BEST. Have fun picking it, PEAKS uses this tricky pin in the 1st pin stack, check out youtube for some pointers. Also, the blade of the key has a little bump (the peak) on the bottom, opposite side of the key cuts. Good luck finding a blank, it's a system with strong key control, so unless you are anuthorized agent on the system, it will be awful hard to order a blank. Ebay may have some but god knows what number that blank is. It doesn't look like D, G, H, or R keyway.

Awesome. I'll get it drilled then, I have a core I need repinned so I'll get it done in one shot. The listing said G keyway, I guess I need to read more before I buy.

Thanks guys.

Do these have anti-drill pins in them?

So you're going to destroy such a beautiful core just to use the padlock body?
Why don't you sell it instead? Or send it to a fellow picker to enjoy picking it, keep the core for his collection and send the lock body back to you for free...

Cheers :)

No, there are no inserts in the core or the pins.

It is a different keyway from what I've seen. I maintain several Peaks systems for my company and they use the "B1" according to the PDF floating around. Our keys say different but anyhow. Even as a customer Best will not sell us blanks for Peaks. We can get just about anything except for Peaks blanks. And a cut Peaks key for us is pretty pricey for a scale slightly higher than GSA.

Peaks are best left alone unless you have the skills to remove the core (and understand Peaks operation, OP) or it comes with a Control key. Don't waste the money. Maybe request pictures next time. A G looks quite different than a Peaks.

I would hate to see that core drilled and i would gladly get you another padlock for the chance at having that one
Aim for the impossible, because there is no challenge in trying when something is known that it can be done

Actually I bit before finding that nice PDF with the key profiles on the net (through here actually). The listing did have pictures I'm just really eager to get into SFIC finally.
