Skype calls

Postby Twisted T » 25 May 2012 18:32

Wasn't sure where to put this but here goes anyway.
At an airbrush forum I used to belong to a few of us would get
together on Skype and talk about airbrushing and a whole lot of other
things. Some of us got to be pretty close friends even though they were in other states. So would anyone here be interested in doing this? It would give opportunity
for some of us to pick the brains (Pun intended) of the more experienced guys.
For those who aren't familiar with Skype it's like having a phone on your computer
to talk wherever for FREE. Who knows there might be some close friendships waiting
to happen. Just a thought.

I would be interested in that. I have trouble finding time to get away from the house so anything I can do at home always helps.
I think to do a group call you have to have Skype Premium, which isnt free. However, I would like to just meet people one on one at least. I need to setup a skype name and get a new camera but, I'm In...

To do a group call you can use the regular skype and it's free.
One person has to host the call and add people as you go.
We've had as many as 20 people on a call at one time.
I think it would be cool if we here could do that but it seems
by the amount of posts no one is interested.

Great now if only we could get others interested then we can begin.
I personally would like to ask questions from the pros here without having
to make a post and then waiting awhile for a reply. Also on skype you can
share videos and pics and more. And you can get to know each other as well.
I think it would also be nice if the pros here could do classes for the newbs who want to begin a career in locksmithing. I realize time is always a factor for a lot of people
but maybe an hour long course could do wonder for some of us. Just my opinion.
BTW my skype name is lockphreak

Skype is the most well known site of it's kind but the quality is not stable, unfortunately. There are other alternatives however. One such alternative is http://www.mebeam.com which is a site built by a rather talented Australian. It is totally free and there is nothing to download. You can have up to 8 people on screen at a time, with voice, chat etc.

I was involved with alpha and beta testing a number of years ago and we once had 24 people from all corners of the world on screen at once, all being able to talk to each other with real-time performance. it does depend on having a stable broadband connection.

It's true that once in awhile skype can be unstable but for the most part
it's really a good thing. Plus you can have as many or less as you like.
And if you don't have a mic you can still listen and communicate with others.
The live chat and so much more and we also had people from allover the world talking
with us. Does anyone think that they might be interested in starting this?
Hell I'll even host the first call. Let me know!!!

or you could just visit the IRC channel and chat in there =)

IRC = Internet Relay Chat was first created and used as a chat room format in 1988, it's still around and alive and well.

You can chat in the main lp101 channel, make your own channel, or talk person to person on the side. By talk I mean using your keyboard, not talking or video chatting like Skype. I do however like the idea of a party line phone or video chat, such as the kind Skype can provide.

I like to use mibbit.com, and click Launch App as a jump point to get into the SlashNET IRC Server (make sure you drop down and scroll to find the SlashNET server) and go to Channel #lp101 you pick a Nickname (usually what you go by on the forum)

You can also download and install a dedicated IRC client such as mIRC, XChat, or BitchX

Hope to see you there!

Squelchtone
Are you saying that maybe you'd be interested in having skype calls?
If so that would be really cool then maybe others would join if you did.
Let me know and maybe we can get one started soon.

I might be interested from time to time. It'd be a neat way to get to know folks better. And I'm horrid at typing so I dont tend to post much. But I also checked out the IRC channel, good to know about that! Thanks!
