Would it be possible?

Tool recommendations, information on your favorite automatic and/or mechanical lockpicking devices for those with less skills, or looking to make their own.

Would it be possible?

I've been seeing a lot of info. on bump keys and the fact that you have to have a wide variety of keys for different lock types. Would it be possible to make a universal key to fit any lock? My thoughts are that maybe a person could make
something like a pick with the exception that it has the dimensions of a key
ie. length and thickness. Just a thought let me know what you think.

I don't think so given the different spacings and depths. Plus you can't take a piece of flat stock and simply slide it in a keyway.

Yes; it's generally called a pick gun or snapper pick.

Good thought on the gun however I was thinking more along the lines of something like a long rake. What if you took a blade of sorts grind it to the proper dimensions
and then it would fit any lock. I hope this makes sense!! If not just consider it a stupid idea. DuHHHHHHHHH!!!

There are such pick blades made in some variety for pick guns; look at Wendt's company site (note the terms of sale):

Years ago there was a pickgun that moved a rake quickly into the lock and also applied tension. I wish I had my old Locksmith Ledgers to find the articles about it.

Not Possible for universal bump key. The structure from lock to lock is so different you couldn't do it. One way to illustrate this is to look closely at the Ilco Key Catalog. It shows the different millings, whether the registry is on the left or right side. The Depth and Spacing, as already mentioned, it just would be possible.

I highly doubt those pick blades are for pick guns. If you scroll to the bottom they offer a handle to fit the pick blades...
