New lock design idea

Postby clearmoon247 » 8 Jun 2012 9:13

Okay, i'm not sure how well this will work, but...i have an idea for a new design for a lock, or how they work. The idea is simple, have the drilled hole for the pinstack threaded and have the keypin with a spiral cut that allows the pin to spin as it is raised and lowered. Then have 2 gates on opposite ends of the pin so that way when the keypin is raised to the proper height, the gates will be lined up so that sidebars will fall into place on both sides of the plug. Then have false gates around the keypin to prevent or limit the picking of the lock, where once it hits a false gate while applying tension, will give the feel of the pin reaching its proper height and setting, without actually setting. Having 2 sidebars will make it so there is no difference for direction of tension so you cannot avoid the sidebar, which must be set first, using either cw or ccw. Any ideas on how this can be improved or where there is a flaw? In my mind at least, it seems like this can work.

Sounds like the driverless Medeco cam lock pins that have their rotation provided by the angled chisel tip and the angles cut on the key, then holes in the pins align with the fingers of the sidebar to be allow to fall into the holes. shallow false holes are also drilled into the sides of the pins to stop picking.

check out pics in this post, other than threaded pin chambers, I think this is what you're talking about:

The idea i have is slighly different from that, because there is a driver pin in the pin stack. Also, the rotation of the keypin is not from the key cut, but rather the height of the pin, where the holes for the sidebar would only align at a specific height and other heights would have false gates
