New to lockpicking (but need to pick a lock)

I have a storage unit. They made me buy this shiny new lock when I got it even though I had a perfectly wonderful lock tailor made for storage already. I paid $20 for it and as unhappy as I was about this, I could see where it was a pretty secure lock. Now that I come to find out that they (unlike every other storage facility I've had to buy a special lock from), do not have a master key. Pretty friggin' ridiculous in my opinion. No, I shouldn't have lost all three keys, but hey, shtuff happens.

Honestly, at this point, I could care less about even preserving the lock. I just know if I damage the door getting it out of there, they're gonna charge me for it. I wouldn't be giving up my storage unit if I wasn't pretty much broke. I have been a firefighter for several years and very few locks have ever even slowed me down but in this case a bit of finesse is called for.

The lock is one of the cylinder types that takes a barrel key. I'm sure someone has posted on how to pick this lock before, but... I couldn't find ANYTHING using the search function, and I tried. Maybe I just didn't know what to search for. Help?

this is the most helpful forums on the web. Unfortunately you're not likely to get any help with this question. We are all hobby lockpickers, there are locksmiths here as well, we're here for the fun of it though. We all recognize that this is a sport that some people dont quite understand, as we are dealing with breaching security. As such we have a pretty high code of conduct and unfortunately it is going to preclude answering that question for you. You need to contact the storage facility to have them open your locker for you.

You weren't 100% clear either about if you lost your key or you're losing your unit do to non payment, if this is the case and the storage facility put a lock on there, well it would be a crime to remove it.

and another thing, your lock description is a bit vague, that doesnt matter though, i dont think anyone here will help you penetrate the security of your storage facility because thats not why we're here.

Call a locksmith or cut it off.

If you wanted to take up lockpicking as a hobby we would get you started but you have to spend a little money on tools and a lot of time just like most hobbies. If you just want to get the lock off of the door then its much faster and possibly cheaper to just call a locksmith.

In the future, try securing your keys to a large pink stuffed bunny. Those things are hard to misplace.

Sorry, but you have to understand that we in the locksport community already have a negative sigma attached to what we do. There are people who think we are a community of thieves and share information to bypass securities to take things that are not ours. We sympathise with your situation as many of us started this hobby because we were faced with a similar situation. We can not, however, possibly know by text the exact reason behind your questions for certain, so for the safety of this forum and for the safety of others we can not just simply tell you to do one thing or another to get past any type of secure structue. If in the future you want to learn how to pick locks so that this doesn't happen to you again, we would be happy to help you, as long as it is for legitimate reasons.
