Carrying a pick-set in you wallet. How do you do it?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Carrying a pick-set in you wallet. How do you do it?

Postby dirtymoney » 23 Jul 2012 6:19

I just recently bought a new wallet. Its a little bigger than a regular wallet... and I want to carry maybe 4 picks and a tension wrench in it. I'd like to know how you guys do it. Just to see if you guys have figured out better ways to do it.

I know about the fake credit card pick case, and I dont really like the idea... it seems too thick & well, quite frankly... lame-looking. I'd love to see a manufacturer make a similar item out of a credit card calulator case like this one..

I also know about the one-piece business card shaped set of small picks that you break apart, which I think is cool, but seems more like an emergency (last resort) type of item. You cant put it all back together & place it back in your wallet.

Anyways... I have gotten off the subject. I want to see & hear about your ideas of keeping a set of picks in your wallet. Concealed or not concealed. Small-sized, medium-sized, or full sized picks. Anything & everything.

I have Deal Extreme´s wallet picks in my wallet, have been very useful some times.
Just get rid of the fake credit card shell and put those picks in a wallet pocket. Mine have never fallen out, they are not even in a zippered pocket.
You could put them together with some rubber band, then they don´t fall out so easily.

Here is one solution, I had this storage with me some time but now I have a thinner wallet so there is no place for this anymore...

I assume traveling through airports is out of the question?

Wouldn´t suggest... Put them in your cargo. A lot of coins could confuse x-ray guy or get yourself one of those protective shields for credit cards and put your picks in it.
One time I didn´t remember I had a little leatherman tool in my jacket, luckily I could take it back to my car. It´s sometimes handy to live in a small country with small airports

I just stick a few small picks in a zippered pocket on the outside of my wallet.

I have no need to 'hide' them, so I'm not worried about making them look like something else.

These are the first picks I made, so they're not perfect - but they're good enough for emergencies.
I need to make some better ones for my wallet, because I have actually been needing to use them more than I thought.
At work - there are locks on everything and it seems like nobody ever has their keys. Not trying to get fired - so I don't touch them unless management asks me to. What's strange is that we actually do have a couple locksmiths at work. I think the managers either forget that we have them, or think they'll take too long to get over there.

The tension wrenches are just flat metal cut into an "L". The thick one is .040" aluminum and the thin one is .020" spring steel.

Sl8r - I have been on 8 flights both international and middle eastern domestic in the last year. Unlike the US a middle eastern airport has you go through a metal detector and xray to get in the termainal area, and then before the flight. I have flown with Raimundo's bogota's in a various hand carry packs, along with serepick titanium picks (which I left in my pocket). In the US the rule is no tool over 6" or one that has a balded/sharp edge. Most of your picks don't qualify to being out of range, and I have carried Auto Jigglers just about half of those flights as well. Now my Bogota's go in the nice little pack serepick sells, but you can put them just about any place and they wont even flinch at a X-ray.

I carry a SerePick Titan mini in my wallet and it works great. I have a wallet that does not fold and just has some pockets for a cards and a money clip.

Cheers,

I use picks fairly often at work so it makes sense for me to carry a bunch with me. I made a seperate "wallet" just for my pick set out of duck tape and velcro. Its a mix of my home brewed and my store bought stuff. I couldn't find anything I liket online for purchase so I made my own. :D

Like I said, I use them a lot at work. I work at a 1mil sq ft hi-rise in Seattle with 750 residents and 300 employees. I pick everything from doors to cabintes and different padlocks on storage units when residents loose their keys. People also lock keys in their cars about one or twice a week. I hate having to go to the shop when I get a call so I just carry all my favorite picks with me. :D

Nice one! But if I wanted to buy it, I needed 39 friends to give away all the rest. Minimum order 40 pieces international...

Oh THAT is pretty cool. I LOVE hidden/secret compartment-type stuff. But if I had an Iphone (or similar) .... I'd buy a good case for it and then stick my lockpicks in the back of the case (between the phone and the case). But all I have is a cheap $20 prepaid phone that isnt as big as an iphone.
