Question about Lock difficulties

Postby clearmoon247 » 20 Aug 2012 8:18

So, I have decided to create/standardize a new locksport/lockpicking game. I have most of the design and planning complete. But their is one crucial step that i am missing. That would be the difficulty of the locks for scoring. Pretty much each player/team would be selected a lock at random, and that lock should have a set amount of award points, based on difficulty. What i am needing help with is figuring out what locks deserve what points (e.g. kwikset with simple bitting, no security pins, would be 100 points, 6 pin medeco biaxial 2000 points, etc.) So, my question to you guys/gals, is what would your ratings be for various locks with set bittings/features be? Thanks so much in advance. you guys are awesome!

have you thought about adding points based upon the number of security pins as well? I know this would go hand in hand with the difficulty for the most part but I think it would help you in standardizing the amounts as well.

Thats part of the plan
Say for every chamber filled, 20 points
for every spool add 25-30 points
for every serrated add 30-35 points.
check pins ???
sidebars ???
rotating pins???
extreme keyways ???
extreme bitting?

Then have base amounts for the quality of a lock, e.g. tolerances
kwikset ???
schlage ???
sargent ???
medeco ???
corbin ???

Wow that's a tough one. There's ao many variables to consider. For one, the brand of lock you're picking. A Master with spools and/or seratted pins isn't the same as say an American Lock or Brinks.

I hope you get a system worked out. Good luck.
