Any LP business sell an asst of hooks?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Any LP business sell an asst of hooks?

Postby atticRR » 24 Aug 2012 9:29

Ive spent the last few days scouring commercial sites for an assortment of hooks to purchase. I can buy single hooks, or sets with worthless stuff like key extractors, tension wrenches etc. I would love to buy a set with just hooks in various sizes. If there is such a spot, let the world know!

Sparrows has a set of 4 hooks (and 6 wrenches):

(Prices are in CAD - but CAD is pretty close to USD right now.)

That's one of the only 'hook only' sets I've seen...

Not sure how your bank handles other currencies - mine just puts it through at whatever the going rate is.

My wife got me some picks from there for my birthday (the Wizwazzle set)... They're in a box right now that I can't open till tomorrow (my birthday is actually Monday, but we're celebrating it tomorrow) - so annoying. They're RIGHT THERE, but I can't play with them yet, lol.

They were one of the only shops willing to take my money... I'm not a locksmith, so that rules out about half of the shops I've found. The rest either didn't have what I was looking for, or kept declining my card for some reason (no clue why - not like I didn't have enough money in the account or anything). It ended up costing like $1 more than the listed price, after the conversion to USD. Shipping (USPS) was as expected (4 days from Canada to Texas).

yeah, when i ordered my pick set i checked the box that said i was exempt because i'm an in-house locksmith (my wife has a store so i guess that makes me an in house lock smith, due to all the locks i'm always replacing-not!) that was from lockpicks.com. I'm sure most online places have the same sort of waiver box to check that says something like that right? I was still nervous and i suppose that the websites that say you have to be agovt employee might actually reqire some proof. I think that sucks! i want to see the govt. version of the LSS so bad!

Anyway that sucks you had so many issues buying picks. I really like the look of the sparrows, so many picks taper from the handle to the tip of the tool, i know its for strength but that wide end always gets in my way when i'm working deep. The sparrows have a bit of wedge real close to the handle but the rest is thin and parralllel. Let us know how you like them and, of course, HAPPY BIRTHDAY :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Thanks!

And, yeah - I'll be sure to let you know what I think!

I tried placing an order with lockpickshop.com, but for some reason that I just don't understand they kept declining my card. After the third time they refused my card, I headed over to Sparrows and didn't have any problems.

I guess I could have called them and tried to order over the phone, but IMO there is no reason the online transaction shouldn't have gone through. They're making it harder than it should be to sell picks - and they lost my business because of it. I didn't notice any waivers (other than the standard "we're not responsible for what you do with this stuff") or anything like that...

I don't know what the problem was, but I assume that's not normal for everyone. Not trying to say that they're a 'bad' shop or anything like that - but I tried multiple times to give them my money and they didn't seem to want it, lol. I do hope that it isn't a recurring problem, because they have stuff I want that nobody else (that I can find) sells - just didn't feel like going through the hassle of sorting it out for this particular order...

This question is for anybody - when they ask you to prove that you are a locksmith or LE or some other 'security professional' - what documentation (if any) are they looking for? And is that something that a hobbyist could obtain without having to register a business and get insurance and all that...? Not looking to open up shop at this time - I just want to play with the cool toys.

Southern Specialties...... sometimes their site messes up and won't take the order... (I have had to call them) But they are great to deal with and ship right away.
