Ok yeah so it is a bit, but not a normal one, and I did a search.
Heres the deal I got done last night showing two new friends (Marines infantry) about locks. With the huge sucess (6 other people ended up sitting down others just watched) the idea I am having is to present a class on padlocks, and a intro into locksport to boot. However I can't go grab a bunch of locks randomly that are easy, and some decent hand out picks. Basically a tension tool a hook, and rake... maybe a half dimond IF the price is right. I figure if I can get 10 sets put together 4-5 easy to pick rake padlocks no holders for them on the cheap that should start the interest. I need recommendation on easy pick/rake padlocks for demo. I have 2 training locks, and cut away, but I want some cheapo locks that I might even send off with the unit to play with.
What place would you go for picks, and what locks would you recommend that are easy to hold and pick (amazon for the locks would be great due to shipping)?
Honestly this is to get people to stop useing these god awful brinks locks to secure weapons etc, and lean about physical security.

I'm guessing you'll get a lot of variation in the responses here, but I'm sure you can sort through them all. If I were you, I'd get the individual picks here. They're stainless, so they'll hold up a little better to heavy-handed first timers, and they have no handles, which means you can put together a set of ten hooks and ten diamonds for under 40 bucks. The price jumps up quite a bit on picks when they have some kind of handle, so I'd say just have your guys wrap them with something if their hands start to hurt, although I doubt a bunch of Marines will have that problem. As for locks, you have a lot to choose from, but the go-to lock for first timers around here seems to be a Master lock. Here's a set for a reasonable price at Amazon. Hope that helps.

As for locks, why not solicit for donations here on the forum? I would imagine almost everyone has an easy Master Lock or two that they acquired when starting out.

As for tension wrenches, you might try putting up a request for a handful of wiper inserts. I don't have any, but I've had plenty pass through my hands and you'd only need four or so to make ten wrenches, which would save you some money.

Easy to rake padlock - No. 1 or No. 3 Master Lock. The No. 3 only has 4 pins, so it's slightly easier to rake. The No. 3 I have rakes open faster than you can open it with the key.
The No. 3 might actually be too easy. It would make a nice "wow, he opened that in less than a second" show, but once they actually start picking on it they might find it too easy.

Tension wrench, half diamond pick, and a master lock #3.
I seriously think these 3 items can be had for under $5 and will def create the perfect storm for the "ready to learn more" pick artist.
"That lock? I could pick that with a finger nail and a piece of laundry lint."

Ok again last night went over far better then I hoped but totally got confusing.... I believe Iam going to have to write out a plan of attack to get people through the basics, and set a time for doing this stuff.
