Cut-away locks?

Postby mrbravo4373 » 5 Aug 2012 14:35

Hey fellow lock munipulators, Im new to this forum and would like to ask my first question.
Can anyone give me some advice on making a cut-away out of a kwikset deadbolt? Im mechnicaly inclined so i know my way around the shop. Id just like to know if theres any pointers out there that i may have over looked. Thanks again for this great forum.

I guess if you look at pictures of cutway locks, you will know what to do. I'd recommend to put the effort into a cutaway of a better lock, though. But you could always start with a cheap lock, of course.
Obviously, you need to take the pins and springs out first, and then cut their chambers open only so much that they will still stay inside.

Cheers

If you are trying to pick a cut-away for practice I would skip it. The cut locks don't pick right and feel odd, but if it is for show and tell so to speak, the rough guess it. Many of the cut aways if turned the wrong direction will have the pins fall out so not many seem to do high quality builds. the lockpickshop here at the top sells a good cutaway that works both ways and you can change the pins out, but doesn't pick like a normal lock feels.

I got to admit though the cut away locks are so much easeier to explain then pictures.

I believe this cylinder was removed from a kwickset deadbolt but I don't remember any more. But the process is simple on a standard pin tumbler lock
