make a kwikset cylinder removal tool?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

make a kwikset cylinder removal tool?

Postby Jarod » 1 Oct 2004 14:56

hey i was wondering if there is anyone that has made a homemade cylinder removal tool for kwikset locks?
the tool seems like a screwdriver with the ends split into a v like shape, so it SHOULD be simple to make, but i'm just wondering if there is anyone who has tryed this idea??

thanks

here you can see a pic, looks almost like it could be made out of hacksaw blade?

Heh, im confused

Its called cylinder removal tool, so i assume it removes the cyclinder. But how does that simple thing remove the cylinder of the lock? My first thought was that you must first remove the (knob or deadbolt) and somehow use this tool?

Someone please clarify this or provide a link please :)

inside the lock there is 2 little metal strips with hook like things on the ends locking the cylinder in place and you use the v end to pull these things together and then the cylender right out! i discovered this by prying on the lock with a screwdriver until one of those things broke the i pulled it out and discovered what i should have done, if need be i might be able to post some pics (i'd need to find some webspace)

You're showing your age there Capt. Most of these kids don't know what fondue is, let alone a fondue fork.

What about the burns on the back, after dropping the piece of bread once (whip), twice (cane) and then at the third drop it was down to the lake to be thrown in with a millstone tied to one's feet... Ah.. ye good ole times...

You think they read Asterix over there?
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.
