any way to mark everything as UN-read?

Postby atticRR » 10 Sep 2012 21:39

is there any way to reset the forum so that everything appears to be unread? I screwed up right at the beginning and marked forums 'read' and it would be great if i could reverse that so i cann keep track while i read through all the older stuff.

thanks!

It is a feature request at the moment, and some people are scripting their own modifications, but as far as v 3.0.10, it has not been an officially released mod/fix.

gee man, where were you in 2003 to tell us different? :-P

What awesome forum software would you recommend instead? I'm all ears, but remember, I'm just a hired gun here.

I think, if I recall correctly, in 2003 I was admiring Efco and Lockwood locks :P

I would recommend Simple Machines Forum ( http://www.simplemachines.org ). There's a converter available as well for phpBB -> SMF so that you can retain all your posts.

I don't know what's wrong with phpbb, but I've had a Simple Machines forum running for about 6 years and I would go for it again.

Amongst many things, it lacks functionality, it's slow (if I recall correctly - comparatively) and it's buggy (or it was when I was dealing with it back in 2004).

I was in search of a forum software at the same time (2003 or 2004) and tried out diffent forums. I remember that the phpbb installation sucked very much. The admin panel wasn't also very convincing (back at 2003). Then I discovered Simple Machines (formerly known as YaBB SE). No problems here. Everything just worked fine and it was a pleasure to run the forum.
In 6 years I was hacked 2 times and had to fix a minor bug, with friendly support from the community. I'd choose it anytime again.

You also might step up to vbulletin, if you want to spend the money.
