Super tight tubular lock. HELP!!!!

Postby mrbravo4373 » 15 Sep 2012 19:53

I just purchased a small metal box at a swap meet, kinda like a strong box, but the didn't have the tubular keys for it so I got it for 4 bucks. What a deal. The only problem is the 7 pin tubular lock is so tight that I can barely twist it. I have been useing my 7pin pick from south ord and sometimes I can get it to turn a little, like half way but than it won't go. it's almost like the lid is super tight. Can anyone help?

Have you tried lubing the lock? Another trick you could try is to clamp the box tight with vise. Reason for this is that if there are too much rubber sealing in the box seam the lock sometimes doesn´t turn so easily. When you push the sealing flat it helps the lock to turn more freely.

Let us know how it went!

there are more than one diameter for these keys and locks, I hope you are not forcing a tubular pick onto an oversize center post,
that would only damage the pick.
In the old days, there were three keyblanks, the 137 which was the common size, and the 137s for small and 137b for big, but just before the big flap in 05 about the kryptonite locks, kryptonite introduced a "new york" lock with an even smaller keyway.
since then I have lost track of the various diameters of these things.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

Thanks Rai and zeepa, can I use a little silicon spray to lube that lock?

I think it is interference between the lock cam and the piece of the box it catches under. Put some pressure on the lid near the lock and it probably will open up. Then bend the cam so that it is easier next time.

Yes silicone lube is fine but I doubt it will help.
