HPC Mini Speedex

Postby minifhncc » 22 Sep 2012 0:42

Hi all,

I just got my Mini Speedex and just tried it. But I have a question.

The motor seems to be sparking quite a bit (you can see it). Is that normal? I can understand why it might be (DC commutators etc), and I don't think it's a big problem, but I'd just like to double check if this happens for everyone else.

Thanks heaps

I've never noticed mine make any sparks.
Might want to give HPC a call on this one.

Alright thanks. I just emailed them.

It'd be a shame if it is a problem. Because I was quite impressed with how cleanly it cuts a key. It cuts it almost like a code machine and doesn't leave burrs unlike many other brands of key machines...

By the way, just another question. Does yours get hot reasonably fast?

If I'm cutting a few dozen keys, one right after another, then yeah, it can get pretty warm. It's a light duty machine and not designed for really high volume cutting. But if it's getting really warm after just a few keys, I'm no electrician but I'd guess it has something to do with the sparkyness.

I like mine too. It's surprisingly accurate for an entry level machine, and delivers very clean cuts.

Yeah hopefully I can get the sparks issue clarified soon...

By the way, what code machine do you have? I would get the CodeMax, but it doesn't do Tubular keys... What do you think?

I have a Blitz. I like it ok, but I got a Herty Gerty for cutting tubular keys.
It was cheaper than buying the tubular key adapter for the Blitz.
