in answer to a few questions, i have posted a post under picking lever locks with 2 in 1 picks and curtain picks, ive mentioned exactly how this is done in this post as well as in a few others.
firstly the hobbs tool known as a 2 in 1 pick will only pick locks with no curtain ( no collar ) , it will not pick british standard 3621 locks, though similar to the hobbs picks you have the curtain wheel pick pictured in this post, this pick will pick locks with curtains including bs locks, though cannot pick the lock if the lowest lever ie a No 7 or 8 lever is present in the lock.
each bs lock has its own pick made by john falle and safe ventures, but these are expensive, the picks differ, some are pin and cam picks, some are plastercine impression make up kits, some are dial reading kits and some are slide rule picks, though all open their respective bs lock in under 10 minutes, each model of bs lock has its own pick, ie ERA have 4 models , to pick them all you need 4 picks 3 picks are £200 each and 1 pick is £480, so to pick all era it will cost you £1080 plus vat, chubb locks have 3 picks for various models at £470, £352 and £200 , the union pick is £200 and so on. commercialy they are great as its a 10 minute non destructive opening.
the curtain wheel picks take practice and the opening speed is limited only to the skill of the picker and the ability to feel whats going on.
you need both a 5g and 7g pick, these range in price from £55 to £150 each.
the hobbs picks are are cheaper at £58 each for the good rimmer brothers picks, again you need various 5g and 7g picks, but this only work on non curtain locks regardless of levers, anything from 2 lever to 14 lever safe locks.
with alot of skill and practice bs locks can be opened with 2 wires.
non bs curtain lever locks like the union 2201 security lock can be beaten with 2 wires in under a minute by almost anyone.
look at my earlier posts for info.
