Question about kind of lock

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the forum, i'm very interested in lock picking, so i google it on the internet, and i came to this forum . I need to learn much about it, (still newbie:)) so i was wondering if someone could tell me what kind of lock this is.

It's most likely a lever lock, I'd say non-curtain but I can't really see anything from that angle and with that light. In all honesty I only say that based on the escutcheon... can't make out a thing, there's something about it that doesn't look right to me though. Need better pics, taken straight on so we can see the actual keyway.

Assuming it is a lever lock, if you open the door and look at the plate it should tell you how many levers are in it. It could be warded with a single lever but those aren't anywhere near as common, guess it depends where in the world you are and how old it is though.

I wouldn't start off picking with whatever that is anyway. Mechanism aside, it's in a door. And that's a no-no.

The face plate is held on with 2 screws. Remove the screws and the plate.
With the plate removed take some photos, open the door and take a shot of the edge of the door
(Where the latch / bolt pops out ) that will tell us allot about what you are dealing with.
Take a couple of photos of the inside of the door as well since you are right there.

Do you have a USB powered endoscope? that is a tool which can literally get inside the lock and look to see what's going on.

Whatever it is it has the wrong escutcheon plate bolted on top of it blocking half the hole.

Thanks for the replies, but I was just Intersted in what those locks are called. But I've found that these lock are called lever locks or mortise locks? ! How do you pick these kind of locks? Do you need other materials?

Those types of locks are called "bit key locks" and use lever tumblers...

They are not for the beginner if you can not find a standard skeleton key which operates them...
