Hey guys, I picked this old Dudey up at a garage sale and have been looking for how to open it online. All I see is instructions on newer models but nothing this old. Anyone have a idea? Thanks for your time!

hold the ctrl key and then use the mouse wheel to scroll backwards. should make everything smaller.

Being it is old as the hills I would just sit and watch TV while applying outward shackle pressure turn it to the right until
you feel some resistance then left until you feel it again and right until it pops open.
If that don't work try left first then right then left.

It should be pretty easy to open just feel for the most obvious click that will be the last number then you could
Just do a progression on the first 2. Did I mention those are the LARGEST PICS EVER oh ya I did. LOL
All else fails call that code to your oldest local locksmith.

CTRL and the "-" button will also shrink it. Or, if it is still too small for you older eyes, CTRL and the "+" button will make it larger. Of course, if you make it any larger, you will need to rent the local IMAX theater to see it.

I'd imagine it would open the same way a modern Dudley would? except with fewer combinations. I don't think I'd be allowed to post the method for opening them here. But it's essentially a narrowed down trial and error that shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes.

Oh I didn't know you couldn't speculate on a vintage lock nobody uses anymore to secure something.
I've seen some posts that have been very explicit on things.
I guess I should curb my thoughts until I can access the advance area.
See pick designs telling how to use them, tips how to improve your chances of success, impression methods,
links to purchase all kinds of picks. Which in this state if you are found with them in your pocket and don't
have actual job that requires you to use them they are burglar tools. I don't think any of it should be in an
open forum yet there it is. And I might add to only require 40 posts to access the advance area is quite insane.
But the rules are the rules and if someone wants to learn how to do these things a forum isn't necessary.
Good to be able to help people that want to learn the art just don't want to help someone learn to go to jail.

I did look this lock up and seen something unusual about it. First thing to note the dialing sequence is for sure 3X Right 2X Left 1X Right. Then says to PRESS SHACKLE TO RELEASE! Now that is different I would have not tried that.

turn dial to right to first number, three times, twice left to second number, once right to third number, pull on shackle.

Actually, in Arizona, they have to prove feloneous or malicious intent for it to be illegal to carry, though it would no doubt have them asking questions. With intent, they can arrest you for burglary tools if you are carrying a rock. Perhaps Maricopa county has additional statutes, but Pima and Pinal counties do not.

Go out get pulled over at night with them in your pocket you will find you don't have to show any intent they are burglar tools trust me. Been doing this too long to not know what the law will do. Best not come to Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe with them, if Pinal county cops don't enforce the law Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe will confiscate them and you will be downtown having wonderful pic being taken.

I will add they will have to prove you had some intent in a court of law if you contest it and want them to give them back. Anything can happen just because it is not by law not "illegal" to own them often times it is the officers digression as to what he thinks was intent. Who do you think will win.

I tried to post a response before, but lost internet connection.

I appreciate the warning. On my person, I usually only carry a small hook, diamond rake and flat tensioner in my wallet where it is hard to find, even on the rare occasion I want to use them. My primary kit is in what was a makeup brush pouch, along with a bunch of locks in a duffle bag, along with pinning charts that I take to a place here in town where we are trying to organize a lock picking group. Other than that, my picks stay at home, where I have little risk of anyone misunderstanding.

I avoid doing anything that would give an officer reason to 'investigate' me. I try to show a respect for the law, and those whose job is to uphold it. Above all, I NEVER get confrontational with an officer. Just would not be wise, would it?

I also follow the two cardinal rules that we teach here about not picking a lock I don't own, or is in use. That helps to avoid all sorts of trouble, doesn't it?

That is correct the attitude you display to them makes all the difference what they do at the time. If you get snappy with them they will remember that when court time comes and they will be prepare to pay you back.

A rock you could say you found it, looked pretty so you tossed it in the car. Screw drivers. hammer, drills, pry bars, you can say you have them in case your car breaks down or you use them for your work. But a lock picks are specific in their use they are intended to neutralize a locking cyld device nothing else. Although you could say you have them in case you need to pick your nose, might get a laugh and they will just warn you to leave them at home.
