Hello Everyone,
I was searching the Internet yesterday looking for information completely unrelated to lock picking when I came upon a series of 30 videos on YouTube about picking locks.
I watched all 30 from beginning to end. I didn't realize that there were competitions for lock picking as well called Locksport!
FASCINATING!!!
In my younger days, I always wanted to sign up for those courses that were advertised on the back of paper match books on becoming a locksmith.
Never did anything about it and I always regreted it.
Anyway, today while searching around regarding further information about lock picking, I just happened upon your site!
Read a bit of it and signed up right away!
Cheers!

Hi all,
Had a long term interest in all sorts of locks, safes and security since I was very young. I can pick some basic locks and I collect anything interesting and of a high quality.
Also got a big box full of old keys, it's very satisfying when I find that one of them will fit an old lock!

:D

Hi to everone:

I am new to this whole thing, never realised this was a thing actually, but I have been always been super interested in locks and padlocks of all kinds ever since I was a very little kid. And I hold them for absolutely fascinating ever since.
I actually tried to make "locks" and alarms on my door from ropes. Never realised I was even behind ancient Egypt on that, but hey, everyone has to start from somewhere...

I find it really sad, that this whole lockpicking has such a negative connotation to it. It is annoying that many people don't realise that it's not evil at all. And what I really find angering is that openness and widespread discussion would probably help lockmakers a lot. (With all the different people thinking about problems, weaknesses and faults it would be a lot easier to advance locks and make innovations.) Also it would probaly raise security conciousness in the everyday people too, which is very needed where I live. It's stunning how many primitive locks you can see everywhere here. People realyl should take their safety a lot more seriously.

But back to me:
As you may have realised from my rant above: I am actually a lot more interested in the theoretical side of lock,(how locks work, why is a lock good and why is it bad, what locks exatly do, how they do it and why and why not somehow differently) and not really on actually picking or opening them. To be honest I only see lockpicking as a possibility to better understand locks. Maybe this is not the best forum for that, but it's great to finally find people who are as much enthusiastic (and a lot more knowledgable, yet :D :D ) about these fascinating little mechanisms as I am.
I'm very much looking forward to learning a lot, and eventually make myself useful and helpful for others too.

Hey guys!

New Picker here, just ordered http://www.lockpickshop.com/LPCK-2.html and can't wait to start learning/picking different types of locks. I've ALWAYS wanted to try, so I finally pulled the trigger and bought a kit. I will also be purchasing a spinner and tubular lock pick set.

I hope this kit gets here soon but it ships out of Boston, so it might take a while, and the processing is out of new york.

After years of watching the big box stores custom pin my locks I decided to purchase an E bay pin kit. Learning how to pin a lock was made possible with internet training a some trial and error. My key ring is has one house key with Master -Sub keys used by all the members of my family. Its now time to move up to the next level.

Old member, but I am back under a new name

Postby wudtrnr » 6 Nov 2012 9:20

Hello,
I joined way back in 2004 and was pretty active in the forum, making my own picks, tools, and contributing to the site under the name "Murph". I had to join up with a new name so I can get back in and I hope the site admin can help me reconnect with my old username and I'll have this one removed.

Nonetheless, it's great being back after a long hiatus, but I never stopped picking locks for a hobby. I have not make any tools or such, but after reading some posts and seeing what some of the good folks here have done, I am motivated to get back into grinding out something new and useful.

Well I'll let you all go and hopefully I'll reconnect with some old friends here and make some new ones.

Take care,
Patrick aka "wudtrnr" and "Murph"

Good day everyone,

I have been interested in the sport for quite some time now. I am a security professional dealing with high security locks and ATM safes. I have been a guest for a while and today I decided to take the plunge and become a member.

I look forward to future discussions with all the great members.
