can you confirm that the pionted out item at the begining of this thread is just a plate to cover the holes in the bottom of the cylinder to stop the pins falling out when you turn the barrel 180 deggres

why wrote:i finaly done it

i picked it by using the snake pick and applying very very light tension.

by the way i used some cheap slimline steel southord picks.

Considering the biting (sp?) on all the keys I have seen so far I don’t think a snake rake would do it.

I don't think its possible but hey I cant prove it as I cant open the lock at all :)

Any way using light tension and a rake would be more likley to false set the spools.
(simply because there are 2 cuts in the spool pin and only one shear line! )

I have tried every tool I own. (Not including drills and grinders  )

You must be one hell of a picker, congrats on opening the lock

Do you think the light tension made it easier to pick the spools?

Also how did you get around the wards to pick the rear pins?

Thanks

at first when i was trying to open the lock i would say i was applying alot of tension. then i started to apply slightly less tennsion and i noticed that i was able to pick the spools.

and i did not find the wards a problem using slimline picks.

i have been really praticing alot since i am unemployed and i spent most my time tryin to pick locks and sit at my computer.

yale x tech cylinder

Postby sidpick » 5 Oct 2004 12:53

popped one apart to have a look

Image
in everybodys experience are they pinned the same? four anti pick for 2 to 5 pins and steel pins for 1 and 6, nice little projects I think! Key looks like an old assa profile - now they own yale probably getting rid of old key blanks!

yale x tech cylinder

Postby sidpick » 6 Oct 2004 13:13

after stripping it down to 4 pins (all anti pick) and constant frustration, even hand making a tension tool this lock finally picked open, 1 day old!
Image
The x tech is bottom middle chrome, surprisingly difficult even though its got a massive keyway! found only this combination of tools worked
Image
pick guns did not work or even tickle the thing.
The tension tool I made was a spring and a stainless cake knife given the usual dremmel treatment
Image
the long end works great on 5 pin euro cylinders as it engages the cam - just measure the key for a length guide. I wanted it to put even tension on the plug as I thought this would be a good way to pick the yale. It pops 5 pins open with both ends, although some filing to the single fat side is going to be done soon! :)

Cripes,

That looks like Hampton's spring tension tool. That's funny.
