do kwikset locks have security pins and how can u tell which pins are security pins in a lock? do you just feel it carefully? and is thier different ways to manipulate different types of security pins?

Old 5 pin residential Kwiksets did not have spool pins, I have seen some 6 pin Kwikset KW1 use a spool pin or two. The new Kwikset Smartkey (has a little slot next to the keyway) does not use traditional pins at all and is very difficult to pick as compared to the old Kwiksets which are very easy to pick. I can't speak to Kwikset Titan KW10 locks as far as spool pins or no spool pins.

As a new member and new picker, let me also provide you with the locksport mantra "dont pick locks that dont belong to you, and don't pick locks that you rely on for your own safety or security" We are all responsible for giving locksport a good name and maintaining it, so make sure those Kwiksets that are giving you trouble are practice locks that you have sitting on your work bench, and not locks mounted on anyone's house, be it family or neighbors, etc. It's never fun when the neighbors or classmates find out you know how to pick and then they make you feel like thief for having this hobby, so we try to let people know early on that this sometimes happens.

thank you. that video helped alot. and i would not pick locks on my house or anyone elses. i go buy used and old locks from garage sales and flea market and occasionally i buy a new one at the hardware store. thanks for the reply
