The lock gets sprung!

Short hook with a notch, homemade. Then everything else.

If I could only carry one, it would be a medium to short hook.

Bembel, what is the notch for? Is it in the middle of the tip?

Many people make this modification, you can even buy them like this, though I forget which manufactures offer them.

The idea is that having a little divit at the point of the pick will help you 'catch' the pins, one by one, since the key pins have conical ends. Some find this helps, others don't. Worth a try I suppose.

@Werxes: Yes. Just like catsoup said, it's for catching the pins.

That's what I figured, maybe I'll give it a try. Although I don't really like my hooks large enough to have room for much of a notch.

Thinking about making one of those picks with a notch myself, for rotating pins.

thanks all for your responses in this poll. Let me be a bit transparent here though, although I am interested in what everyone uses i was really interested in zeepias pick preference because I wanted to surprise him with one of my electronic handled picks-unfortunately he didnt fall for the bait and elaborate on what kind he used, fortunately he ended up with a half diamond and a hook! enjoy sir, enjoy!

O tempora o mores...

Actually they look even cooler in hands than in pictures. And they work pretty well too, this particular 5200 had been unpicked so far until I gave it a electric shock :D

Thanks AtticRR, this was a very cool surprise!
