Brico 40mm laminated padlock

Hello, this will be my first post to this site

Lock picking is a new hobby for me and I thought I'd give some information
about a Brico padlock that I disassembled and studied.

Brand: Brico 40mm Laminated Padlock
Origin: China
Pins: 4 spool pins (cheap ugly spool pins)






I drilled out the 8 pins, that were holding the lamination's together, with a regular drill bit
and then tapped the pins out with a hammer and a skinny nail.

To keep the drill bit from sliding off the rounded pin head I used a center punch and hammer
to dent a small hole for the tip of the drill bit to rest into.






(below) These spool pins seem more rounded at their ends than the ones I see on other websites
















(below) I thought this double locking mechanism was interesting...they both share one spring









If anyone would like to see more about this lock please let me know I have lots of pics
and I'm willing to take more.

Nice first post. Welcome to LP101.

I have seen that type of spool pin before inside of cheap Harbor Freight padlocks. Posted a writeup similar to yours a while back, with pics. The primary difference I see is the Harbor Freight lock had a plastic plug, where yours appears to be brass.

An excellent first post, very informative, well written, and good photos. I can't believe those spool pins, they look cast instead of machined.
