It helps that I am in the Bomb Squad and thinking outside the box is kinda part of the gig. Thank you for the complment. Is there any downfalls or stopages that a security drive pins may cause using reverse picking minus have to play magic man with tension? I understand the a security bottom pin would act like a drive pin but in reverse
KISS. keep it simple.. dont over think this. most locks don't have key pin security drivers unless you're looking at American Padlock, some brinks padlock, and ASSA/Ruko brand padlocks and cylinders.
Reverse picking always works better for me for an American 5200 than picking it normally. Also helps to have a fat tension wrench because the bottom of the keyway is much wider than most locks and a normal wrench will have a tendency to cam out.
All we're doing is stacking the odds in our favor by getting as many nasty spools and serrations out of our way, so instead of dealing with a driver pin and a key pin, now we're only dealing with key pins, and overcoming the odd sensation that in order to pick this lock you have to slowly reduce tension and let the springs in the bible set the pins to shear line.
Keep practicing,
