Calibrating an HPC Blitz 1200 without a kit

Postby jessegrunewald » 7 Jan 2013 14:19

Hello all!

I'm new to the site and was having trouble finding information on calibrating an HPC Blitz 1200 without using the calibration kit. Would someone with experience mind walking me through it? I'd be forever grateful! If you have a moment and could give me the step-by-step or point me to where I might find this information, that would be great. I've just started out and am trying to be as frugal as possible, though you may assume I have anything I may need (other than the kit of course) at my disposal. Thank you so much in advance.

Trial and error basically. If you have a caliper measure centerline of cut from the shoulder. Adjust as necessary for space. If calibrating for tip stop, measure from key tip. Depths again trial and error. Make a cut and measure the depth of your cut against specs and adjust as neccessary. Depth is adjusted by rotating the elliptical bar that depresses the gauge plunger. Space is a bit more of a pain as you have to loosen the retaining screws on the bottom of the arm assembly so you can slide it left or right as needed. I dont recall if there is a fine adjustment for space or not.

You can help get close faster using a key that is already cut and on spec. Put it in the vice and adjust space until cutter sits in appropriate cut for the space you are sitting in on the key. Depth can be adjusted the same.

Just an fyi, the calibration kit helps but isn't the greatest.

Make sure you always view the display from the same angle when adjusting.

As mentioned above, you need a caliper and a key that is cut to factory specifications. My Blitz came with a Schlage SC4 cut to factory specifications, I presume it's supposed to be use for calibration.

Here is a guide, http://www.lsc.com.au/content/Documents ... 0guide.pdf

Why do you say that? I actually found the calibration kit to be really useful. I would've wasted lots of time if I didn't purchase it. I would highly, highly recommend it.

Don't get me wrong, it is useful for sure as it speeds up the process but the machine still requires fine tuning afterword. So in essence a key that is cut to exact factory specs will do the same thing as the calibration kit.
